Founded before 1233, probably in 1231. In 1348, 23 of the community died of the Black Death. Suppressed and abandonded in 1541. New friary built in Cook Street in 1615; in 1619 chapel destroyed but rebuilt. In 1799 nine friars were here, whilst three others were working in parishes. New church built in 1749, and the present church was begun in 1834, and completed in its present form in 1938.
Adam and Eve's today has taken on a number of very different aspects. The Merchants Quay Ireland project includes two very active ministries directed towards the poor and needy in the centre-city area. One element is a specialized ministry to drug-users. The other is a ministry to the poor and especially the homeless, giving them food and advice.
The Church continues its own ministry, providing the traditional Franciscan "service church" ministries. The structure of these ministries is as follows:

11 Day National Franciscan Pilgrimage to the Holy Land

To mark the celebration of the 800th anniversary of the foundation of the Franciscan Order a major study of the history of the Irish Franciscans was published in November 2009. Entitled The Irish Franciscans, 1534-1990 (Four Courts Press) the work examines all aspects of the life of the friars and their impact in Ireland and on the Continent.
“Irish Eyes are Smiling” - Charity Album from Fr. Tom Russell OFM in aid of The LARCC Cancer Support Centre. Fr. Tom Russell OFM is an Irish Franciscan working in their well known community at Rossnowlagh, Co. Donegal. He has recorded a charity album in aid of The LARCC Cancer Support Centre based near Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. The album, “Irish Eyes Are Smiling”, contains Irish classics such as; My Lagan Love, The Foggy Dew and Roisin Dubh.
