Franciscan Abbey, Multyfarnham, Co. Westmeath. Tel: (044) 9371114 Fax: (044) 9371387 Founded in 1268. Between 1590 and 1617, it was raided six times and twice burnt by the English. When Mons. Massari came here in 1646, there were 30 friars here. In 1766 there were seven friars but five were very old. The church was unroofed from 1651 to 1827. A new friary was built in 1839. A seraphic college was opened in 1899, there being only four pupils the first year.
