Irish Friar Sent on Mission

Fr Joe (on the right) receives the Mission Cross.

On Friday 16 June Joe Walsh OFM, a member of the Dublin Fraternity, was presented with his “Mission Cross” during a ceremony of commissioning.

The ritual took place in Merchants’ Quay friary as the community gathered to invoke God’s blessing on Fr Joe who has volunteered to be part of the Franciscan fraternity in Juba, the capital of South Sudan.

The “Mission Cross” was presented by Fr Hugh McKenna OFM, our Minister Provincial, who presided over the ceremony held in the oratory within the friary.

Fr Joe responded to an appeal from the Minister General of the Order for friars to live for at least six months in this particular mission area.

A brutal civil war has being raging within the country during the past few years. As a result many thousands have been killed and millions of people are displaced and living in refugee camps.

Please pray for our brother Joe that the Lord will protect him from all harm and make him an instrument of peace and grace among a suffering people.
