May the Lord give you peace! I so love to hear that hymn always associated with devotion to Mary during the month of May: “O Mary we crown you with blossoms to day, queen of the angels and queen of the May.”. I’ve heard it at least twice since the 1st of May, first time at the vigil Mass in Ennis on Saturday evening and then last night on the radio. It reminds me of my childhood and of the May altar we usually had at home. Perhaps you might like to set up a little prayer space in your home this May, a special space dedicated to Mary.
Our founder, Francis of Assisi had great devotion to Mary. She was his patroness and she is our patroness too.
In the major life of St. Francis by St. Bonaventure we read:
“He (Francis), embraced the Mother of our Lord Jesus with indescribable love because, as he said, it was she who made the Lord of majesty our brother, and through her we found mercy. After Christ, he put all his trust in her and took her as his patroness for himself and his friars. In her honor he fasted every year from the feast of Saints Peter and Paul until the Assumption.” (Omnibus, p 699)
I pray that you will be blessed in a special way during this month of May. Perhaps a little mantra that you could use as you continue to discern your vocation is “May it be done unto me according to your Word.”
God bless you and if you want more information on the Franciscan way of life please do not hesitate to contact me at:
