Pray For Vocations and for those Discerning

Dear Friends,

vocationsMay the Lord give you peace. At this time of year many men and women finishing training in trades, other professions and all kinds of third level studies are discerning their future. It might come as a surprise to some people that a significant number of these men and women feel called to the priesthood or religious life, others are interested in spending some time working as lay missionaries in places like Central America or Africa and some feel called to the Franciscan Way of life.

At present there are a group of men discerning with me trying to work out if the Francisan Way is the way for them. All of these people need our prayers, that prayerful support at this difficult time of discernment. The Church and the Franciscan Order need men and women to bring the ‘Good News’, the ‘Gospel of Jesus Christ’ to others at home or abroad and so there’s a great need to pray regularly for vocations. Indeed that might be your vocation at this time, ‘TO PRAY FOR VOCATIONS.

Remember Jesus told his disciples “The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few; therefore, ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (Mt:37-39) I encourage you to pray for people particularly during these more intense months of discernment. Pray in whatever way comes best to you. Perhaps the following prayers might be a support for you in praying for Franciscan Vocations:

“Mary Queen of the Friars Minor, pray that many men may follow the Poor Man of Assisi in building up the Church, the Body of your Son.”

“Father Francis, you were called by Jesus to go and build up His Church, and you joyfully followed that call. Help the members of the Franciscan Order to continue your work today. May your love reach out to others through them, so that many more will be attracted to follow Jesus after your example.”
