Ambrose and Minister Provincial, Hugh McKenna

The launch of the permanent exhibition of the paintings

of Br Ambrose O’Mahony OFM

at St. Patrick’s Hospital, Marymount Hospice, Cork City,

took place on Friday 23  November.

In his introduction to the catalogue Hugh McKenna  OFM, Minister Provincial, wrote:

George Bernard Shaw wrote: “without art, the crudeness of reality would make the world unbearable”. Through a lifetime of painting, Brother Ambrose has helped all of us to see the world through the eyes of the artist, lifting us beyond the boundaries of this world to catch a glimpse of eternity.

The Franciscan Order in Ireland is so happy to gift these wonderful paintings on permanent loan to Marymount Hospice.  It is our hope that all who come to view them may experience something of that joy and peace that St. Francis preached to all of creation.
