Br Kevin McKenna OFM went peacefully to the Lord on 30 May aged 85. He was a long-time member of the Franciscan community linked with Franciscan College, Gormanston, Co Meath.

Kevin joined the friars and made his First Profession in Killarney in 1956. After periods in different houses of the Irish Province he was assigned to Gormanston College where he was to spend many decades.

Saint Francis, in his Rule for the friars, writes of “those brothers to whom the Lord has given the grace of working.” Kevin received that grace in abundance! He laboured quietly and efficiently carrying out a multitude of tasks around the large college.

His gentle, unassuming presence had an impact on many people over the years, both staff and pupils. The large number of people who filled the college church for his Funeral Mass borne witness to the affection and respect in which Kevin was held.

Hugh McKenna OFM presided at the Mass while Brendan McGrath OFM, a former college rector, preached.

Br Kevin was laid to rest in the Franciscan cemetery in the college grounds.

May the Risen Lord grant his faithful servant the fullness of joy!
