Our brother Fr Dominic Hession OFM died peacefully in South Africa on 7th June. He was a few weeks short of his 80th birthday.

Dominic was a native of Dublin. He joined the Franciscan Order in 1958 doing his novitiate year in Killarney. He then studied in Galway and Rome before being ordained to the priesthood in 1966.

He went as a missionary to South Africa and was to devote the rest of his life to building up the Kingdom of God in that country.

He was parish priest in various townships and was a dedicated retreat director. He also served the Order as Novice Master and the Guardian of local communities.

He brought great giftedness, energy and good humour to his ministry, and was held in great affection by both the friars and the People of God.

His Funeral Mass will celebrated in La Verna, the Franciscan Retreat House in South Africa and will be buried their along side his brother Franciscans.

We pray that the Lord will grant his faithful servant life and joy unending in His presence.
