Our brother, Fr Fintan O’Shea OFM, died on 1st November in Dublin. Born in Killarney, Co Kerry in 1939, Michael O’Shea was educated in Franciscan College, Gormanston, Co Meath. He entered the Franciscan novitiate in his native town in September 1958 and received Fintan as his religious name.
He celebrated his First Profession on 8th September 1959. After studies in Galway and Rome he was ordained to the priesthood in Rome on 5th March 1966.
As well as ministering in various friaries in Ireland, Fintan was part of the Irish Franciscan missions in Chile and later in El Salvador. While stationed in Dublin he was for a time chaplain to Dublin Port, and for many years chaplain to CIE Dublin.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated in Adam and Eve’s church, Merchants Quay, Dublin 8, this Wednesday, 3rd of November, at 12 noon. Live streamed at – www.churchtv.ie/adamandeve followed by removal to the Franciscan Friary, Killarney, where he will repose from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
Requiem Mass will take place on Thursday at 12 noon, followed by burial afterwards in Aghadoe Cemetery, Killarney
