Dear Friends,

May the Lord give you peace!   According to the ‘Little Flowers of St. Francis of Assisi’ the first man to join St. Francis in living the Gospel was Bernard a man from his home town.   Bernard was the richest, most noble, most learned in all that town.   He was attracted to Francis’ patience despite the ill treatment he was receiving from many of the townspeople.   After inviting Francis to lodge for the night and pretending to be asleep he observed Francis and was so impressed by how Francis spent the night in prayer he was touched and inspired by the Holy Spirit to ask Francis if he could join him.

Today many men still follow Jesus in the footsteps of St.Francis of Assisiand we hope that by our example we will continue to draw many more to join us.   Pope Francis has given us great encouragement by reminding us that we have something special to offer the world today.

In the Irish Franciscan Province we presently have a number of men training to be Franciscan Friars.   Each year we hold interviews and assessments in June or July and those who are accepted enter their first year of training in September.

If you are between 20 and 40 and feel that you would like to join us or even know more about us please contact me.  My full details, phone number and e.mail address are on the website.

Do not be afraid because God is with you as you continue your discernment journey.

Many blessings,
