Rossnowlagh Franciscan Church: Update on the Path Ahead

From June 29th churches are allowed to open but are not obliged to do so.

Because of our concern for safety and the difficulty of keeping the social distance in our church and because of the numbers that come here for the Saturday Vigil Mass and Sunday Mass – it has been decided that Mass will not be celebrated publicly at present in our church.

We plan to move forward in three stages.

STAGE ONE: starting on Wednesday, July 1st the church will be open for private prayer each day for two and a half hours, from 3.00pm until 5.30pm in the afternoon.

STAGE TWO: from Wednesday, July 8th Confession will be heard during this time in the afternoon, namely 3.00pm until 5.30pm.

STAGE THREE:  starting July 15th weekday Mass will recommence each morning at 10.00am

We hope you will understand and appreciate our desire for the overall safety of everybody.

Thank you very much for your cooperation.

Stay safe and well. God bless you.

Nearby Donegal friary (Read more …) was established in the 1470s, and destroyed in 1601. A modern foundation was made in the county in Rossnowlagh in 1946, where a new church and friary were opened in 1952.

The Franciscan Friary, Rossnowlagh is a place of hospitality and welcome for all who seek peace and reconciliation. We welcome people to our prayer and to our table. The friars serve in church ministry, give retreats and workshops, and offer counselling and spiritual direction as well as simply being available to anyone who calls to the friary. The Postulancy of the Province was located here in the 1960s for those seeking to complete secondary standards or technical skills.  The adjoining Retreat House (La Verna) is now run by “NET Ministries” – a group who give retreats and outreach to youth.
