Our brother Gerry Phayer OFM died peacefully in Galway on Thursday 8th February. May he rejoice in the joy of the Risen Lord.
Brother Gerry was 84 years of age and was 60 years a Franciscan friar.
A native of Limerick city he joined the friars in Killarney in 1958 as a postulant. He made his Simple Profession in 1961 and celebrated his Solemn Vows in September 1964.
While in Killarney friary Brother Gerry trained as a cobbler, making sandals for the friars.
In 1965 he moved to our friary in Multyfarnham in Co Westmeath, and in 1975 he joined the community at the Franciscan College, Gormanston, Co Meath.
He was to live there and carry out various roles until his appointment to the Galway community last July.
Funeral Arrangements:
Reposing at Griffins Funeral Home, Johns Gate, Pennywell, Limerick, on 9th February, from 5.00pm – 6.30pm, followed by removal to St. Mary’s Parish Church, Island Road, Limerick, for 7.00pm.
Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday morning at 11.00am followed by burial in the Franciscan plot.
