Fr Iain Duggan OFM died on 26th July. A member of the Franciscan community in St. Francis, Liberty Street, Cork, he went to God peacefully in the care of the nurses and staff of Brookfield Nursing Home.
He was the beloved brother of Phil, Jimmy, Anthony and Paddy. He is sadly missed by his family, relatives, friends and the Franciscan Community.
Following present guidelines and with the support of Fr. Iain’s family, the funeral will take place privately.
John Duggan was born in Dungarven, Co Waterford in 1935. He joined the Franciscans in 1962, going to the novitiate in Killarney friary where he received the religious name Iain. He made his first profession of vows in 1963.
He then studied philosophy in University College Galway followed by the study of theology in Rome. Iain was ordained a priest in 1969.
He ministered in various friaries throughout Ireland, including Drogheda, Athlone and Wexford. His last appointment was to Cork in 1999. His gentle presence and wisdom made him a very popular confessor and spiritual guide to many.
Iain was a poet who had several books of poetry published over the years.
