Our brother Isidore Cronin OFM died peacefully in Marymount Hospice, Cork on Sunday 3rd July. He was 77 years of age and a member of the Cork Franciscan fraternity.
Patrick Cronin was from O’Dwyer’s Villas, Thomandgate, Limerick city. He joined the Order in 1962 as a postulant and received the name Isidore. He made his First Profession in Killarney in 1965 and celebrated his Solemn Profession in 1968.
Isidore was appointed to Saint Anthony’s College in Leuven, Belgium in 1968 and was to remain a part of that fraternity for 25 years. The Irish community in Belgium remember his kindness and sense of fun with great affection
Returning to Ireland in 1993 he was first appointed to the Drogheda community, and then to Clonmel friary in 2000. He ministered as chaplain in St Luke’s Hospial, Clonmel and in Waterford University Hospital. He always had time for a chat and a joke, and his presence was a wonderful support to both patients and staff.
In 2014 Isidore was appointed guardian of the Ennis fraternity and later was guardian in Dún Mhuire, Killiney. He came to Cork friary in 2020.
For many years Isidore was associated with the Franciscan Pilgrimage to Lourdes, and his care for the sick pilgrims and his cheerful dispostion was a blessing during the pilgrimages.
Br Isidore will be deeply mourned by his loving family, the Franciscan friars and his many friends.
Reposing at Condons Funeral Parlour, Clonmel on Wednesday 5th July from 10.00am, with removal at 10.30am to the Franciscan Friary, Abbey Street, Clonmel. Funeral Mass at 11.00am followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery.
May our dear brother rest in the peace of Christ.
