Our brother, Brendan Forde OFM, died on 8 July in Limerick Hospital. He had been home on holidays from El Salvador when he took ill. He would have celebrated his 80th birthday in September.

 

Born in Dublin in 1943, Brendan entered the Franciscan Order in 1960, made Profession in 1961 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1968.

 

Throughout his life, Brendan lived his Franciscan vocation among the poorest in several Latin American countries. He was expelled by the Pinochet Regime from Chile in 1983 for which work with the poor and their struggle.

 

In the following years, he served the people of El Salvador, Guatamala and Colombia with loving generosity and also great courage in times of war and oppression, returning to the mountains of El Salvador five years ago.

 

Funeral Arrangements

Arriving at the Church of the Immaculate Conception (Adam and Eves), Merchants Quay, Dublin on Thursday, 13 July 2023 at 2.00pm.

 

Mass in Spanish at 2.30pm. Misa de Cuerpo Presente Jueves 13 de Julio 2.30 pm. Presidida por Monsenor Oswaldo Escobar Aguilar. Obispo de Chalatenango, El Salvador.

 

Reposing after the Mass from 3.30 pm until 7.00 pm.

 

Requiem Mass at 12 noon on Friday, 14th July followed by burial in Glasnevin Cemetery in the Franciscan plot.
