May the Lord give you peace! Yesterday evening, September 9th four men were recived into the Franciscan postulancy in the Franciscan Friary, Killarney, Co Kerry. The postulancy is the first year of training in the Franciscan formation programme. We praise and thank God for these men who feel that they are being called by God to follow Jesus in the way of St. Francis of Assisi.
The four men are Michael King (England), Noel Maher, Doon, Co Limerick, Adrian McGrath, Banbridge, Co Down and Dave Connolly, Douglas, Cork City. Here they are pictured with three Friars from the Killarney Fraternity, Padraig Breheny, Hilary Steblecki and Sean Murphy. We wish them well and assure them that they will be remembered in our prayers.
According to our Formation Document. The Postulancy is the period of time during which the candidate asks to embrace our life with the intention of preparing himself properly for the novitiate, the stage when he formally begins his life in the Order. The postulant does not wear the habit of the Order and it’s a time designed to foster growth in Christian maturity through the development of the intellectual and emotional dimensions of human life. The primary concern here is human development. During this postulancy year, the postulant and the Order strive to arrive at a sound, mutual and responsible decision about his admission into the novitiate.
