Dear Friends,

May the Lord give you peace!   Yesterday, January 4th Pope Francis made a secret visit to Greccio to the shrine of the first living Nativity scene.

From that night on Christmas Eve 1223 the crib has become a familiar feature in all Roman Catholic churches throughout the world.

The Pope arrived at the Franciscan Friary in Greccio in a blue Ford Focus accompanied by two plainclothes security guards. What a surpirse this must have been for all the Friars present!!!!

Pope Francis also made a surprise visit to a local youth group and speaking to them he told them to reflect on two important signs associated with Christ’s birth:  the star of Bethlehem and the baby in the manger.

Though the sky is full of stars the Pope told the youth:  “there is one that is special,” the star that inspired the three wise men to leave everything behind and begin a journey into the unknown,” and he went on to ask them to be on the lookout in their lives for a “special star that calls us to do something greater, to strike out on a journey, to make a decision.”

On this the Feast of the Epiphany, is God asking you to be on the lookout for that special star, that star that is calling you to do something greater, to strike out on a journey, to make a decision?    Maybe God is calling you to be a Franciscan????   If you think this might be so why not contact me and begin a process of discernment to see what ‘star’ God wants you to follow??   May I take this opportunity to wish you and your family every blessing on this great Feast and throughout 2016.   God is with you.
