Franciscans Gather to Celebrate the Jubilee Year of Saint Francis

On 26 September a special gathering took place in the ancient and beautiful Multyfarnham Friary in Co. Westmeath, founded 1268.

Over 200 members of the Franciscan Family in Ireland, friars, sisters, Secular Franciscans, and YouFra (Young Franciscans) came together to celebrate the Jubilee Year of Saint Francis.

The Year was declared by Pope Leo to mark the 800th anniversary of the Transitus of the Poverello, his “passing over” from this life to God’s glory in October 1226.

Those who gathered were encourage in their vocations by the Pope’s words: “Saint Francis’ message of faith, fraternity, and peace is what the world urgently needs”
