The GO! Franciscan Youth Meeting

The city of Assisi is preparing to welcome many thousands of young people from across the continent for the GO! Franciscan Youth Meeting, an international gathering that aims to bring together young people from across Europe to rediscover the message of St Francis through encounter, prayer, and celebration.

The event will be held 3- 6 August and is open to young people between the ages of 18 and 33, both believers and non-believers. It offers a unique opportunity to meet in the spirit of St Francis, in the year that marks the 800th anniversary of his death.

GO! Franciscan Youth Meeting was created with the goal of creating a shared space where participants can experience authentic moments of listening, dialogue, and learning. The programme is structured to alternate prayer and spirituality with moments of celebration and sharing, allowing young people to discuss the fundamental issues of life in a context of universal fraternity.

During the four-day meeting, participants will be involved in various activities, including thematic workshops, worship, and the Fra GOspel music competition.

On 6 August Pope Leo will join with the young people and celebrate with them.

‘To share the life and joy of St Francis of Assisi and to share, through one’s own experience, the joy of sharing the Gospel - this is the spirit that accompanies and guides us throughout the preparation process of these days,’ declared the friars organising the event.

‘In the footsteps of Francis, we want to build bridges so that every young person can rediscover the beauty of this hope in their daily lives, discerning the Face of God incarnate in every person, especially in the smallest and most vulnerable.’

Hospitality will be provided throughout Assisi in local facilities such as gyms and school halls, fostering a climate of mutual sharing and community.
